UIU Photography Club brings ‘Shutter Stories Chapter 4’ to National Art Gallery

Moments frozen in time and stories told through light and silence are on display at “Shutter Stories Chapter 4,” a national photography exhibition organized by the Photography Club of United International University (UIU), which opened Friday at the National Art Gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka.

Now in its fourth edition, the exhibition showcases contemporary life as seen through the lenses of young photographers from across the country. Being held at Gallery No. 7, the exhibition will remain open to the public until Dec. 28.

Organizers said the response this year was strong, with nearly 1,000 photographers submitting close to 11,000 photographs. After a competitive selection process, 78 single photographs and six photo stories were chosen for display, offering intimate and reflective visual narratives of everyday life.

The selection jury included acclaimed photographers Hasan Saifuddin Chandan, Mohammad Rakibul Hasan and Mahmud Hossain Apu. The jurors noted that photography continues to play an increasingly important role in shaping artistic expression and cultural dialogue in Bangladesh, and said platforms such as “Shutter Stories” help young photographers develop the ability to observe, question and document their surroundings with honesty.

General Secretary Md. Mahmudul Hasan expressed hope that the photographs would leave a lasting impression on visitors.

A total prize money of 50,000 taka will be awarded to six photographers featured in the exhibition, organizers said.
